About this session

Instructor will select kanji characters based on your name and guide you through creating your own calligraphy artwork to take home.

Japanese calligraphy, known as Shodo, is the traditional art of expressing beauty through brush, ink and written characters.

During this guided, hands-on session, instructor Kana Oyama will select kanji characters based on each participant’s name. You will learn how to use a traditional calligraphy brush and create your own personalised artwork to take home.

No previous calligraphy or Japanese-language experience is required.

The session will take place in a dedicated area on the venue stage, providing participants with their own space away from general foot traffic.

What is included

Calligraphy brushes and ink will be provided for use during the session, and all paper and materials are included in the NZ$20 session price.

Participants may take their completed calligraphy artwork home afterwards. Brushes, ink and other reusable equipment must remain at the venue.

Admission to With Love, JAPAN is free. This is a separately ticketed session, and advance booking is required.
